Ellsworth Spared

Ellsworth Air Force Base has been spared from closure. I have to agree with the commission on this move. It was a dumb idea to move all of our bombers to one place, especially since that one place would be farther away from enemies, save that powerhouse Venezuela. These bombers would normally fly over the top of the world in the event of a war with Russia or China. Ellsworth's closure would have also violated the never put all your eggs in one basket rule. Sorry, no bombers today. We have weather problems.

John Thune has got to be breathing a huge sigh of relief. Ellsworth's closure would have ended his career. I always kind of wondered in the back of my mind whether or not the base was put on this intentionally to later let him play the hero, or if this was a real possibility and was simply Bush taking a little more of our national treasury back to Texas with him.
