One of the dumb things about voting here in Franklin county is the distribution of ward voters into precincts. Fro instance, my ward has 5,821 registered voters spread across six precincts, yet my precinct contains 1,562 voters, or 27% of the voters. One precinct has less than half as many voters, two others nearly half. I know that voting machines are distributed to make up for this, but the line gets clogged at the check-in where there are only two books no matter the size of the precinct.
So, why such a large spread? A lot of voters in my precinct were furious in 2004 after waiting two hours to vote while the other precinct simply strolled in, voted, and left. That is why I was sure to be there before the polls opened today.
