Kevin Phillips has been a republican mainstay for five decades. He worked for the Nixon White House and correctly predicted, and subsequently helped build the modern republican coalition, so now that it exists, what does he think about it? No longer does he see Republican government as a source of stability and order. Instead, he presents a nightmarish vision of ideological extremism, catastrophic fiscal irresponsibility, rampant greed and dangerous shortsightedness.

Sounds about right, I'll have to pick up this book.
